High quality and innovation are two words that immediately jump to mind when thinking about Tonello, the Italian brand that, since 1981, has reinvented the way jeans and garments are washed, dyed and finished. With over 7000 machines sold worldwide and a widespread sales network, Tonello is considered the reference point in the garment finishing industry. That’s the reason why the ICHAM — Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam — invited us to take the floor at the upcoming seminar “Italian Technology for Vietnam’s Garment and Textile Industry”.
This year, at Munich Fabric Start, from August 30 to 31, four companies, leader in their respective market segments, have chosen to astonish the world by presenting a total look collection – from jackets to knitwear, from underwear to shoes… – entirely realized with a cool and innovative stretch fabric: DEN/IM.
After NoStone®, Water Brush, and Core, denim washing has reached a crucial turning point with UP. This patented technology reduces the liquor ratio to unparalleled levels, saving water and energy and making water filling and draining faster. UP is a revolutionary innovation applicable to all existing Tonello machines, including the least recent. Because Tonello machines do not age, they evolve.
At the end of March, three students of the Jeanschool of Amsterdam were selected for a full-immersion training at Tonello, where they learned about garment finishing and denim processing. During the week, they developed new skills and the right expertise to realize by themselves a creative denim collection, taking advantage of Tonello sustainable technologies. The collection was showcased during Amsterdam Denim Days 2016. A few months later we interviewed them, asking about their experience in Tonello, their thoughts about the industry and their future projects after graduation.
Tonello joined forces with Kaltex for the New York edition of Kingpins, the international show dedicated to denim insiders. Together, they presented the Konscious collection, featuring garments processed ecologically in all phases of production and with an authentic worn-out look. Innovative fabrics, cutting-edge technologies and revolutionary finishing techniques: these were the constituent elements of a successful collaboration. Bringing sustainable fashion to the market.
Tonello’s Safe Collection features denim garments with an authentic worn-out look that are safe for workers to treat and for consumers to wear. This achievement was perfected by combining different technologies and, in the same way, by avoiding the use of any type of hazardous chemicals. An example of this is potassium permanganate and sodium hypochlorite, two both toxic and polluting products of standard use in the finishing of jeans.
This month, the capital of Bangladesh will turn indigo blue, as it will host Bangladesh Denim Expo, from April 25 to 26. The show celebrates the country’s role in shaping the denim scene today, and explores Bangladesh’s position in the industry of the future. And it will have a strong focus on investment for education and training for young people. To build a future, we must transfer knowledge internally to a new generation of designers, merchandisers, buyers, production technicians and entrepreneurs in the Bangladesh denim industry.
A non-book book, experimental, artistic but never didactic; an “emotional object” of inspiration and design, made up more of free associations – thematic, graphic and photographic… – than of logical and orderly arguments, like a fabric that is interwoven of different kinds and consistencies of threads, combined together by proximity, and similarity or contrast: Tonello has chosen to celebrate its first thirty-five years of history with a tribute.
Our new site hosts the first online shop with laser designs and graphics: an ample library of images from simple to complex, that can be used with any machine. These can be used for large or small samples, and combined with washes, dyes and finishes so that you can create unique garments in very little time and without heavily investing in equipment or personnel. Everything is always at your fingertips 24/7.
